History
In the year 1919, Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started. The company was founded by an engineer and pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology by Anton Raky. The initial name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was purchased by the Salzgitter Group for making drilling machines. During the year 1986, the company obtained the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into a global brand name in the following years.
