Solid Lift Truck Tire Safety

About 200 deaths each and every year are a result of accidents involving lift trucks, or forklifts. Correct maintenance and inspection of lift truck tires could truly help to lessen the risk of accidents.

Pre-Work Check

The tires on the lift truck must be inspected at the beginning of each shift, inspected for indications of damage and wear. The air pressure in the tires needs to be checked to ensure the pressure is not too low. Low tire pressure could make the equipment susceptible to tip-overs when lifting loads.

Types of Tires

The selection of tire type should be based on the type of surface on which the lift truck will be operating. For indoor use, lift trucks with solid rubber tires are recommended. For surfaces that are smooth, tires tend to be smaller. Bigger pneumatic tires are great for lift trucks for outdoor use. Pneumatic tires could grip rough surfaces well because they are air-filled and have a rubber tread.

Other factors

Any lift truck utilized on a continual basis should be inspected at the end of every shift, according to Occupational Health and Safety Administration guidelines. The tires must be inspected again for any sign of damage, like for example wear or cuts.

Lift truck Safety

If you or your workers are going to be utilizing forklifts, correct training in forklift safety is important. Forklift mishaps can result in serious personal injuries or death and result in unmanageable financial difficulty. Even minor mishaps could cost your company money if the goods or the forklift are damaged during a mishap. Be certain you are well informed regarding forklift safety problems.
