In the year 1949, the Liebherr family business was established by Hans Liebherr. His first claim to fame was the success of his affordable and easy-to-assemble mobile tower crane. It was upon this creation that the company's foundation flourished under. Now, The Liebherr company has grown to become among the leading manufacturers within the world of construction machines. The company has also gained the reputation of being the acknowledged supplier of user-oriented technically innovative services and products in various fields. The company has presently become a "Group" working in every continent with over 35,000 workers and more than 130 companies all over the world.
To be able to ensure a manageable operating size, the Liebherr Group has been divided into different company units. These units have been designed to operate independently. Liebherr-International AG is the Liebherr Group's holding company. They are situated within Bulle, Switzerland and are completely owned by the Liebherr family members. At present, the family business is being managed by Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr and his sister Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr in the 2nd generation. Since 2012, some of the active individual divisions have been represented by members of the family in the third generation such as: Patricia Ruf, Stefanie Wohlfarth, Jan Liebherr and Sophie Albrecht. These members of the family have been working together to help set up the course of the family business in the future. They are staying on top of large-scale industrial projects and residential buildings all over the world.
Hans Liebherr began to build his company during 1949, in a tiny town called Kirchdorf within southern Germany. Kirchdorf, presently supports one of Liebherr's 20 manufacturing locations. They employ more than 1400 individuals in that particular workforce and are able to average an annual output of around 2800 wheeled excavators.
