Types of Construction Lifts or Boom Lifts
A boom lift is a piece of machine that allows workers to perform tasks without having to build a scaffolding. They are used to do maintenance work, to work on elevated structures and are common machinery found in factory and warehouse settings too.
Typically, construction lifts provide powered and wheeled bases which are capable of driving to the work place and have a platform on them that is responsible for lifting employees. There are many different types of lifts and each one is suitable to various types of tasks and environment.
Bucket Trucks
Cherry pickers or bucket trucks, are built with a long boom which has a bucket attached at the end. This bucket area is where a worker could stand. Normally, bucket trucks are used by utility workers and by landscapers. Landscapers often use these machinery to prune trees.
Every bucket truck has a boom assembly mounted to a standard truck, which enables these vehicles to move swiftly on regular roads. Also, this increases the area that this machine can service efficiently. This is especially essential for power companies. Like for example, a lot of these businesses utilize cherry pickers to raise workers up so they can reach and work on transmission lines. The buckets need to be checked on a regular basis and correctly insulated as they are working close to potential shock hazards.
Articulated boom lifts are also called "knuckle lifts", and have a work platform which is mounted on an arm that is able to bend in order to reach around obstacles. The base of the lift contains a turntable and is capable of turning the lift in a full circle. The base of the lift is mounted on wheels as well for extra mobility.
Usually, the articulated boom lift is used for landscaping projects but is also useful for maintenance work on projects which are already finished. Projects that do not need easy access right underneath the jobsite. These lifts can be used for exterior electrical work and to repair piping, as well as areas which are hard to clean. Normally knuckle lifts are driven by the worker in the platform with the boom extended.
